"The original West Loop luxury tower — still delivering."
Upper Level's exclusive rating for Chicago winter survivability — indoor parking, pedway access, CTA proximity, and wind exposure.
Echelon Chicago opened in 2008 as the second tower in the K Station development, at the time one of the most ambitious luxury rental projects in Chicago's West Loop. Seventeen years later, it remains a solid option — not the flashiest building on the block, but well-located, well-managed, and consistently popular with residents who want West Loop access without paying for the newest glass tower.
The building sits at the edge of West Loop and River North, steps from the Fulton Market core but slightly removed from the weekend chaos of Randolph Street. The resort-style outdoor pool, 24-hour concierge, and renovated fitness center are the headline amenities. Units range from studios to two-bedrooms with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, washer/dryer in-unit, and private balconies on select residences.
At 37 floors, upper units have genuine skyline views. The building is managed by Morguard Living, which has a solid reputation for consistent operations. No pet fees or pet rent is a notable perk.
A mix of young professionals, finance and tech workers, and long-term West Loop residents who've been in the building for years. Echelon attracts people who want a proven, well-run building over a shiny new one. The no-pet-fee policy draws a lot of dog owners.
353 N Desplaines sits at the intersection of Kinzie, Desplaines, and Milwaukee — technically where River North meets the West Loop. You're steps from the Fulton Market restaurant corridor, close to the Green/Pink Line at Clinton, and within easy reach of the Loop. The location is slightly more office-corridor than neighborhood, but the walkability is excellent.
Echelon is the second of two towers in the K Station development (the first was Kinzie Station). Both were developed by Crescent Heights and share the same block. If you're touring Echelon, it's worth knowing the building's history as part of a larger master plan — the shared amenities and common areas were designed with that scale in mind.
Echelon Chicago is a proven quantity in the West Loop. It's not the newest or the most Instagram-ready building, but it's well-run, well-located, and offers a resort pool and 24-hour concierge at a price point that's often more competitive than newer towers. Best for renters who want West Loop access and a building that's been doing this for 17 years.
